Lair Hill Park - for Kids and Families!
Kids, adults, parents, families… everyone is welcome to come learn the trees of the gorgeous Lair Hill. Plenty of shade is available under the spreading canopy of magnificent landmark trees. How many different kinds of trees do you think there can be in one small park: Five? Ten? Fifteen… Twenty???
Although the focus of this walk will be oriented towards kids, it will still be engaging for solo adults who want to learn tree identification. If you are already a tree person, test your knowledge. Questions from all experience levels are welcome! We will cover identification, ecology, edibility and traditional medicinal uses. This hike will be offered each season to allow us to see the trees’ appearance at different life stages.
Research shows the average American fourth grader can identify only a few plants and nearly a thousand corporate logos. Let’s help kids use their amazing capacity to recognize patterns and turn it towards exploring leaves, bark, flowers, twigs and cones!
NOTE: This is not a drop-off event. Parents must remain present in the park for all minors registered for the class.
