Fire and Smoke: Tending to People and Lands in Times of Burning

Fire ecology and respiratory health have been on our minds these past weeks as the wildfires burn in the West. We designed this course to provide students with an understanding of fire ecology and the herbal knowledge to promote respiratory system health. This course is greatly discounted to make it accessible to as many people as possible, and because of the urgency of the situation.

This two part class starts with a discussion of Fire Ecology and some of the “pyrophytic” plants that play an important role in healing the Earth and land after fires, as well as the adaptation strategies that plants use to thrive in fire-prone areas.

In the second half of the class we will cover important considerations when tending to people who are suffering from smoke inhalation and exposure, including a materia medica of respiratory herbs and formulas, and functional approaches to treatment of the various smoke-related health issues. (Because of time, this class will not address the herbal first aid care of skin burns). This part of the class will be very practical and fast: a rapid download of effective methods for helping sickened people quickly.

Dates: Thursday, Sept 24 (it might be offered again in a few weeks as well…)

Time: 10AM - 2PM

Location: ONLINE via ZOOM. The meeting code will be emailed to you before the class.

Cost: SPECIAL $25 - this course is greatly discounted to make it accessible to as many people as possible, and because of the urgency of the situation.

In order to participate in the course at this time you will need to be able to access a computer with internet.

Refund policy: Full refund can be given if cancelled more than 24 hours before the start of the class. No refunds are possible less than 24 hours before the start of class or after the class has begun.
