This small forested park is home to a surprisingly diverse ecosystem. Enormous Douglas firs tower over the lovely trails. The riverside areas along Rock Creek are full of wildlife. This is a perfect place for the study of native trees… magnificent Redcedars, Maple, Ash, Yew, Alders, Oak, Hawthorn, Red Osier, Douglas fir and true firs… The trees and understory plants in this amazing park are healthy and thriving, and we get to hang out with them while we explore their medicine. Learn botanical identification, ecology, harvesting and medicine preparation. Join us for an easy half day hike amongst the mighty giant trees!
Hiking difficulty: Very easy. Paved paths accommodate strollers, wheelchairs, and walkers.
Our half day plant walks take us to close-in, easy, accessible and family friendly locations in the Portland area. Children 12 and under are welcome free with a paying adult. Study in the field includes botanical identification, ecological awareness, discussion of harvesting techniques and considerations, medicinal uses both traditional and modern, and medicine making.
