Elderberry Alumni from any past year of the Herbalist Training Program can register for this camping and wildcrafting trip in 2026! (Space is limited)
This journey takes us to visit plants of central Oregon, an environment that has dozens of incredible species we don't find on the western side of the Cascades. It is a truly magical area of exceptional beauty and mystery.
Days will consist of instruction in plant ID, ecology and materia medica; hiking and potential harvesting. Evenings will include medicine making and singing. Campfires may or may not be allowed in the forest at the time of the trip.
The region has variable weather but days can be very hot and dry, and nights can be cold.
Requirements for this trip:
- All participants must have been on at least one HTP wildcrafting trip in the past. All wildcrafting ethics are maintained, and we will refresh our commitments to honor class agreements.
- All participants must be comfortable camping in challenging environments
- Participants must be fully self-sufficient with water, food, gear and weather-preparedness items. Participants will bring their own gear for harvesting and medicine making in the field.
- This trip includes one all-day 8-mile loop hike with elevation change.
Detailed directions will be shared after registration. Registered alumni who wish can be connected with other participants for possible ride-sharing and resource sharing. Higher clearance vehicles are recommended, just for the final mile or two. (Lower clearance vehicles just have to take it real slow.)
(If we have to cancel due to fires or smoke, all registration fees will be refunded, but we aimed for these dates with the goal of being there before the fire season really picks up. Still... every year is different)

Ochocos Trip
When you purchase the class you will be emailed a link to download a PDF file containing details about the class and other necessary instructions. This link will be active for 30 days. If the link expires you may email us for a new link. However, as we prefer to spend our time in the woods rather than on the computer, we recommend downloading the file immediately.
If a class date must be cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control, such as forest fires and poor air quality, we will do our best to reschedule but this is not guaranteed.
